Important Tips

Procter Test: A method for determining the maximum density that can be achieved by wetting and compacting a given aggregate.

Rip Rap: A rough, angular breed, usually blasted or shattered. Also known as shotgun

Road base: a mixture of gravel, sand and fines that compresses well.

Sand: grains of sand from 0.06 mm to 2 mm.

Silt: grains of sand from 0.002 mm to 0.06 mm in size.

Topsoil: natural or artificially cultivated soil with organic matter content of 15-40%.

Good sorting: coarse soil with even size distribution.
